Rock Sports Climbing
HOW DOES IT WORK?
At Rocksports, we have Top rope climbing, Lead Climbing and Bouldering. When you’re top rope climbing, you will be attached to a rope as you climb our walls. For this type of climbing, you will need a partner to hold the rope for you while you climb. We can show you how to do this when you come in. There are also two automatic belay station’s so you can train alone. Bouldering is climbing on shorter walls, with mats beneath you to ensure a safe landing when you fall. This can also be done alone.
HOW LONG CAN WE CLIMB FOR?
Here at Rocksports we don’t have time limits. Your entry fee is for a day pass which means pay for your entry and climb all day. If you want to have a break and grab some lunch that’s no problem, just come back when your ready and carry on climbing.
I DON’T HAVE A PARTNER?
No problem! If you’re looking for someone to climb with, you can make a post on the Friends of Rocksports Valley Facebook group. The group consists of regulars looking for people to climb with. Dont forget we also have two Auto Belay stations where no partner is required. These walls are set with all grades of climbs. Be sure to follow us on facebook were we post regular events such as singles nights.
NEED TO MAKE A BOOKING?
No! Bookings are only required if you intend on coming to the gym in a group of 8+ or if your looking to hold a birthday party.
HAVE TO COMPLETE A WAIVER FORM?
Yes – the completion of a waiver form is compulsory for every climber and belayer. If you’re under the age of 18, we require that you have a parent of guardian sign on your behalf. You can even do this online before you come in.
ANY AGE CLIMB?
Any age is able to climb (we encourage it!) but you must be over the age of 13 to belay (hold the rope for your partner).
Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing is best, and covered footwear is essential! Basically, wear what you would if you were going out for a long walk. We recommend sneakers or trainers for the beginer climber but we do also hire proper climbing shoes which will improve the quality of your climbing.
CAN I PARK?
There are a four parking spots out the front which is free for 2 hours The streets adjacent to Rocksports are generally paid- parking on weekdays between 8am-5pm. After 5pm, or on weekends, you can usually find a park on Agnes or Gotha St. During busier times and work hours, Quarry Street and Love Street are the best options.
Alternatively, we are only a 2 minute walk from the Fortitude Valley train station, and there are lots of bus routes that will drop you a few minutes walk from us.
